For me, working with wood is more than making objects. It is a way of slowing down, paying attention, and finding meaning in the quiet process of shaping a natural material. As a child I spent many hours watching my father work with wood and learning from him, just as he had learned from his own father. Today I still use some of the tools that passed from them to me, and that sense of continuity and respect for the material continues to guide my work.
Working with reclaimed and naturally fallen local wood, I create one-of-a-kind pieces that celebrate the timber’s natural beauty and imperfections. My work draws on forms found in nature and on centuries of traditional vessel making. Most pieces are turned on the lathe and often finished by carving. Even the smallest offcuts find a new life as unique pieces of jewellery.
